Tony Burney

Tony Burney joined the Deason Center in September 2024 as a Research and Policy Analyst. In this role, he supports the Center’s mission by conducting data collection and organization, legislative policy analysis, and case law research to drive systemic change in the criminal legal system.
 
Burney holds a Master of Public Administration in public policy analysis with a concentration in social justice from Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service. He earned his Bachelor of Science in sociology from Texas A&M University as well.

Burney's previous experience as a policy analyst fellow includes conducting legislative policy scans, writing policy briefs, and tracking criminal justice reform legislation. Among his academic achievements, he co-authored an award-winning research project that involved developing a comprehensive nationwide database of over 28,000 policy indicators. His expertise and dedication to justice reform make him a valuable asset to the Deason Center.
